I do like my rumours and gossip so I'd thought I'd share the most recent whispering game that has been going about the political circles. Nigel Dodds MP MLA OBE will be the DUP candidate to contest the European Election in June 2009.
Talk about a big hitter. Discuss.

Will this cause a by-election in north Belfast? I think I am right in saying you can no longer be an MEP and MP?
As far as I know you can't be an MEP and member of the national parliament. In the UK special provisions are made for peers who are elected to Europe so that they don't take their seat in the Lords for their Euro term. As for MPs on the otherhand, I'm not quite sure.
You cannot be an MP and MEP at the same time. As soon as elected as MEP Dodds would have to resign.
As Parliament would still be in session by election could be fairly prompt.
Who is your source?
